Become a Monthly sustainer

When you make a monthly contribution to The ArQuives, you provide stable funding for the acquisition and preservation of LGBTQ2+ information.

To join as a monthly Sustainer, you simply pre-authorize a monthly deduction from your credit card.

Giving monthly is the easiest and most cost-effective way to give to The ArQuives:

  • As a monthly supporter, your contribution is convenient, automatic and effective
  • You enable us to better plan activities in advance
  • Our administrative costs are greatly reduced, which means more funds go directly to our work
  • You will receive fewer reminders from us, which reduces paper consumption
  • It is easy to activate and more convenient than writing cheques

To join by phone or mail, please provide the following information:

By Credit Card – Provide the credit card type (Visa and MasterCard), number and expiry date, the name on the card, your signature, and the amount you would like to give each month.

By Chequing Account – Provide a cheque marked VOID, with a note indicating the amount you would like to give each month; please date and sign the note.

Once you start your monthly gifts, withdrawals continue on the 15th of each month until you notify us of a change. A single tax receipt for your annual contributions will be sent to you after the end of the year.

Leave a Gift in Your Will

The Archives Must Exist Beyond Lifetimes

Including The ArQuives in your will means future generations will know the stories of the struggles and achievements of LGBTQ2+ communities. After you have provided for your loved ones, please consider a bequest to The ArQuives to continue our important work.

Donations in Lieu of Gifts

Are you planning a special occasion gathering for yourself, a family member or a friend? Don’t want folks to bring gifts? Please consider suggesting that guests donate to The ArQuives instead. We will send a representative to your event to collect donations. Please contact Raegan Swanson, Executive Director, at executivedirector@arquives.ca or 416-777-2755 for more information.

Gifts of Stocks and Securities

Why give a gift of securities?

Making a gift of publicly-listed securities such as stocks, bonds or mutual funds to The ArQuives helps us keep our stories alive. There are significant tax advantages in donating your shares in stocks or options directly to a charity like The ArQuives, rather than selling the shares and donating the proceeds.

A charitable donation of publicly-traded securities such as stocks, mutual funds, bonds or futures results in a tax receipt for 100% of the value of the gift on the day of the transfer. By providing a larger potential deduction than an equivalent gift of cash, this option allows you to maximize your charitable giving.

For more information about the donation of securities, please contact Deanna Bickford, Sr. Development Officer at development@arquives.ca

A gift of appreciated securities is a highly tax-effective gift option, whether given today or in the future through a bequest in your will.

Tax advantages of gifts of securities

As of May 2, 2006, you are exempted from any capital gains tax on a charitable gift of publicly traded stocks or securities. For example, you might wish to make a charitable gift of $10,000 by selling or donating stocks that cost you $4,000 to purchase, with a capital gain of $6,000. If you sell the stocks and donate the proceeds, you would claim a charitable tax credit for your donation but would also be assessed capital gains tax on 50% of the increase in value of the stocks. By donating the stocks directly to The ArQuives, you get the charitable tax credit for the donation and you are exempted from any capital gains tax. The direct donation option in the example provided would result in a reduction in capital gains tax of up to $1,400, depending on your tax bracket.
