Scott\, Tony Ward \n\nReminiscent of Sunset Boulevard\, the action is transposed from the silver screen’s old backlots to contemporary male prostitution and the pornographic industry. \nSleaze Factory and Desire in Motion are teaming up for a sizzlingly sexy 30th anniversary screening of Bruce LaBruce’s HUSTLER WHITE preceded by Kalil Haddad’s THE TAKING OF JORDAN (ALL AMERICAN BOY). \nWhen lovesick anthropologist Jürgen Anger (Bruce LaBruce) – no relation to Kenneth – arrives in Los Angeles to research hustling\, he falls head over heels for the gorgeously hunky Montgomery Ward (Tony Ward). HUSTLER WHITE is a strange and wonderful odyssey that pays tribute to the opulence of classic Hollywood cinema\, trading the glamour of the silver screen for a raw\, rugged tour of the sex work and porn industries of the 1990s. The film is a beautifully-shot concoction of romance and sexual desire that\, as queer film historian and programmer Liz Purchell notes\, is “practically a[n Agnès] Varda film in how LaBruce and [Rick] Castro weave a fictional story into their ethnographic exploration of Santa Monica’s kink and hustling scenes.” -JACOB CREPEAULT \nThis screening will include a post-screening discussion with filmmakers Bruce LaBruce and Kalil Haddad moderated by Weird Alice and a pre-show performance by drag king Randy Roy.  \nThis screening is supported by Toronto Arts Council and The ArQuives\, who will be in the Paradise lobby showcasing historical materials surrounding queer film in Toronto as well as materials from LaBruce’s work. \nDoors Open 30 Minutes Before Showtime.

SUMMARY:Queerborough Zine Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our third Zine-Making workshop\, hosted by zine-artist Wasifa Noshin and partnered with The ArQuives! The workshop takes place on Wednesday\, July 22nd at the Scarborough Museum\, from 2:00-5:00 pm! \nZines have long functioned as queer counter-archives: informal\, embodied\, and collective forms of knowledge-making which resist the limits of official documentation. Writing about zines as participatory archives\, scholar T. Honma (2016) argues that zine culture enables marginalized communities to document themselves while actively producing new forms of collective identity and community. \nThis Queerborough zine workshop intends to build on that tradition by approaching zine-making as a queer archival and pedagogical practice rooted in PLACE. Centering Scarborough\, we will explore how queerness is lived and remembered outside of downtown cores and institutional archives. Rather than asking participants to produce polished narratives\, this workshop embraces fragmentation and mess not as failures of documentation\, but as central to queer world and knowledge-making. Participants are invited to think with questions such as: Who is this for? What does it mean to archive ourselves? How do our individual experiences connect to longer histories of queer survival and care? And\, most importantly\, what does Queer Scarborough mean to you? \nAlthough not required\, we encourage everyone to come in with gathered scrap-booking materials (perhaps\, a donation box of old books and magazines) and ready to get their hands dirty!
