SUMMARY:The Wild and the Weeds
DESCRIPTION:Curated by McKenna Gray and The ArQuives Curatorial Committee \nCentering Hanlan’s Point Beach’s history and queer ecology\, The Wild and the Weeds proposes alternative ways of looking at and engaging with this queer site. The exhibition explores ecological consideration\, co-creation\, and kinship\, forging pathways for understanding queer past and imagining queer future. \nFeaturing artists Morris Fox\, Morgan Sears-Williams\, and Patrick Stochmal\, alongside material from The ArQuives’ collection\, Hanlan’s Point Beach is positioned as more than the site of the 1971 Gay Day Picnic\, addressing contemporary concerns of the queer community regarding gentrification and public space. Engaging with topics of public/private\, cruising\, decay\, and the erosion of the beach\, the artists provide a context through which we can view ecological entanglements with queer memory and identity. \nOpening reception: May 29 from 6 to 8pm \nArtist Roundtable (online): June 10 from 6 to 8pm \nOpen times and dates:\nFridays 4pm-8pm\nSaturdays 11am-3pm\nSundays 11am-3pm*\nClosed June 26\, 27\, 28 \nAppointments and curatorial tours available\, email curatorial@arquives.ca \n*Sundays are masked mandatory hours \nImage: Morgan Sears-Williams \nPlan your visit to The ArQuives

SUMMARY:Queer Stitch 'n' Beach
DESCRIPTION:Join a 2 hour gathering of 5–9 participants for queer craft\, conversation\, and reflection at Hanlan’s Point Beach—a significant 2SLGBTQIA+ site. \nAs part of McKenna Gray’s curatorial programming for The Wild and the Weeds\, artist Morris Fox will lead a “Stitch ‘n’ Beach.” Inspired by “stitch ’n’ bitch” circles\, this creative session explores themes of queer memory\, ecological grief\, sexuality\, and queer presence in public green spaces. We’ll beach\, chat\, and craft together—contributing to a collaborative project and a short reflective research questionnaire. \nParticipants are welcome to bring their own craft work\, the artist will also have crayons\, blank patches\, paper\, to make frottage. Material from the event will be scanned and included in two of the artist’s research outputs include a collage book and mixtape. \nThis session is part of a PhD project on queer ecologies\, gothic sensibility\, and collective worldmaking at Concordia University. \nWe are hoping that participants are curious about how this event could be beneficial to their feelings about queerness\, nature\, the socio-political climate we are in\, and contributing to a queer toolkit. We seek participants who self-identify within the 2SLGBTQIA+ spectra and are 18+ years of age. \nWe look forward to your presence on the beach. \nRegister here or via the “Get Tickets” link. \nQuestions can be directed to morris.fox@concordia.ca. Once slots are filled\, those interested can email outreach@arquives.ca to join the waitlist. \nPlease note: After registration\, participants will be sent a research consent form and will need to read through and sign the form prior to the event. We will have paper copies on hand\, should you prefer. \nWhile there is no financial compensation\, some materials will be provided. You’re welcome to bring your own supplies\, plus water and weather-appropriate gear. \nIf\, on the day of the event\, the weather rains/storms us out\, assume that the event is postponed. We will notify you of the new proposed date. \nParticipants will be expected to purchase their own ferry tickets and meet the artist at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal at 11:15am for the ferry to Hanlan’s Point. Should this be a financial barrier\, you may contact outreach@arquives.ca to request a compensated ticket.

SUMMARY:What Will I Become?
DESCRIPTION:Join The ArQuives for a pay what you can screening of What Will I Become? at CineCycle\, Toronto. \nIn What Will I Become?\, directors Lexie Bean and Logan Rozos explore the vulnerability of their transmasculine+ community. They delve into their own personal experiences\, intertwining the stories of two young trans men who died by suicide. \nHomecoming king Blake Brockington and soft-spoken Kyler Prescott were poets\, musicians\, and community advocates. The film traces their joys and challenges\, their tragic deaths and resulting media attention\, and the larger aftermath within their communities. The film also uplifts resources that affirm trans boys and the trans community as a whole to provide an understanding of suicide-prevention practices. \nWhat Will I Become? asks why the transmasculine community is particularly vulnerable to living briefly and dying quietly. \nPost screening Q&A moderated by Lily Kazimiera. \nContent Advisory: The film addresses depression\, suicide\, sexualized violence\, and anti-trans discrimination. \nDoors open at 6:30pm\, screening at 7:00pm.

SUMMARY:Score
DESCRIPTION:Director: Radley Metzger Run Time: 91 min. Format: DCP Rating: 19 & Over Release Year: 1974 \nStarring: Calvin Culver\, Carl Parker\, Clair Wilbur\, Gerald Grant\, Lynn Lowry \n\n\nIn the mythical city of Leisure\, a sexually-liberated husband and wife seduce a younger\, staid couple into experimenting with bisexuality and group sex. \n\n\nTake a trip with Sleaze Factory to the city of leisure\, a town where preferences are fluid and bisexuality runs rampant. We wanted to kick off Pride month with a bang\, pun heavily intended\, and feature another flavour in the queer spectrum.\n\nWhat better way to have your first swinging experience than with a film from the king of “Porno Chic” – Radley Metzger (The Opening of Misty Beethoven). Directed under his moniker of Henry Paris\, SCORE answers a backpage classified bet and leads to the ultimate in debauchery. It’s dreamy\, playful\, shockingly hilarious and stunningly shot. – WEIRD ALICE\n\n\nPre-show performance by DIONNE WHOREWICK. Sponsored by The ArQuives. \n\n\nContent Advisory: Contains graphic sexual imagery. Must be 19 & over to attend. \n\nDoors Open 30 Minutes Before Showtime.

SUMMARY:Hustler White: 30th Anniversary!
DESCRIPTION:Director: Bruce LaBruce\, Rick Castro Run Time: 80 min. Format: DCP Release Year: 1996 \nStarring: Bruce LaBruce\, Ivar Johnson\, Kevin Kramer\, Kevin P. Scott\, Tony Ward \n\nReminiscent of Sunset Boulevard\, the action is transposed from the silver screen’s old backlots to contemporary male prostitution and the pornographic industry. \nSleaze Factory and Desire in Motion are teaming up for a sizzlingly sexy 30th anniversary screening of Bruce LaBruce’s HUSTLER WHITE preceded by Kalil Haddad’s THE TAKING OF JORDAN (ALL AMERICAN BOY). \nWhen lovesick anthropologist Jürgen Anger (Bruce LaBruce) – no relation to Kenneth – arrives in Los Angeles to research hustling\, he falls head over heels for the gorgeously hunky Montgomery Ward (Tony Ward). HUSTLER WHITE is a strange and wonderful odyssey that pays tribute to the opulence of classic Hollywood cinema\, trading the glamour of the silver screen for a raw\, rugged tour of the sex work and porn industries of the 1990s. The film is a beautifully-shot concoction of romance and sexual desire that\, as queer film historian and programmer Liz Purchell notes\, is “practically a[n Agnès] Varda film in how LaBruce and [Rick] Castro weave a fictional story into their ethnographic exploration of Santa Monica’s kink and hustling scenes.” -JACOB CREPEAULT \nThis screening will include a post-screening discussion with filmmakers Bruce LaBruce and Kalil Haddad moderated by Weird Alice and a pre-show performance by drag king Randy Roy.  \nThis screening is supported by Toronto Arts Council and The ArQuives\, who will be in the Paradise lobby showcasing historical materials surrounding queer film in Toronto as well as materials from LaBruce’s work. \nDoors Open 30 Minutes Before Showtime.
