DESCRIPTION:JOY. SORROW. ANGER. LOVE. PRIDE.\nA celebration of Toronto Pride\, from 1970 to Present\nLaunched in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of The ArQuives—Canada’s only LGBTQ2+ archive with a national scope—Toronto Pride’s first exhibition and publication feature enlarged archival photographs\, print media\, and ephemera carefully selected from among the archives’ holdings and a public call for submissions. Kicking off Pride Season\, this remarkable multifaceted project focuses on Toronto Pride from 1970 to the present day. \nOn August 1\, 1971\, a group of gay and lesbian activists organized Toronto’s first “Gay Day Picnic” at Hanlan’s Point Beach\, and the efforts put forth that summer afternoon sparked a movement. Since then\, millions of local and international visitors have attended and supported Toronto Pride. Today\, it is one of the largest gatherings of the LGBTQ2+ community and their allies in the world. \n

DESCRIPTION:Scholars and experts join host Thom Allison (director of Rent) in a conversation about Canada’s 2SLGBTQ+ history\, focusing on post-WW2 through to the present. Guests include Rev. Brent Hawkes\, founder of Rainbow Faith and Freedom (an organization working to confront and decrease religious-based 2SLGBTQ+ discrimination worldwide)\, Raegan Swanson\, Executive Director of The ArQuives (the preeminent archivists for 2SLGBTQ+ histories and resources in Canada) and Professor Patrizia Gentile from the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies at Carleton University. \n  \nPride Week at Stratford Festival\nGet ready for a series of events programmed around 2SLGBTQ+ topics\, history\, and insightful presentations with artists\, scholars and speaking guests ready to share their expertise and experiences. Experts from Casey House\, a Toronto-based specialty hospital providing care for those living with and at risk of HIV\, scholars of Queer history in Canada\, and prominent 2SLGBTQ+ advocates are some of the voices and perspectives coming to the Meighen Forum.

There’s no cover and no registration required. Teams are encouraged but not necessary. If you don’t already have a team\, we’ll match you up with one\, or you can take us on solo.
