Located in downtown Toronto, The ArQuives one of the largest independent LGBTQ2+ archives in the world. We are seeking strong candidates to submit self-nominations for our board of directors. We are looking for individuals who have the time, energy and initiative to work on LGBTQ2+ cultural heritage and documentary stewardship on behalf of the entire LGBTQ2+ community. We have a working board, and all members are expected to commit to participating in and/or leading committee work.

The board supports various standing committees, such as the Finance Committee, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Community Engagement Committee, and others. Board members work to further strategic goals concerning collections, diversity, programming, fundraising, and a new building.

In particular, we are looking for board members who can provide leadership in the following areas: a) conducting cultural programming for an arts/culture/heritage organization, b) digital communications and marketing skills, c) community engagement.

Board members attend a monthly board meeting, a monthly committee meeting, participate in occasional community and ArQuives events, and work on their focus areas outside of meetings. We estimate board member obligations as ranging between 8-10 hours per month. Board members have staggered two-year terms. Generally, board members run for election at our May AGM. In the event of an opening, the board can appoint board member(s) before the AGM.

We are welcome applications from across Canada as Board Meetings, and most committee work will occur virtually.

The ArQuives acknowledges and is committed to addressing historical inequities within our organization. We encourage applications from marginalized communities, including those who identify as Indigenous, women, trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, Black, people of colour, and persons with disabilities.

Please send any questions you might have via email by March 12th, 2021.

The deadline for submissions is March 15, 2021. To apply, please send the following information via email attention Co-President Dennis Findlay: a cover letter describing your interests and experience (especially as they relate to The ArQuives needs and priorities as listed above), and a c.v. or resume.
