A Spotlight on New Board Members

Our 9 person Board of Directors includes a team of active and engaged LGBTQ2+ activists, community builders, historians, archivists, and others committed to Keeping Our Stories Alive. Our board members come from a variety of fields, bringing their expertise to help further each of the CLGA’s strategic goals concerning collections, diversity, programming, fundraising, and space. Meet some of our newest board members:
Justin Hughes-Jones (Director):
Justin is currently the Senior Director, Digital Sales at RBC. He is a strategic individual with strong analytical and people management capabilities. His experiences include being a business lead for multiple initiatives related to strategy, relationship management and transformation. He is a diversity and inclusion champion for a number of areas with a focus on the LGBTQ2+ community; including being the Co Chair of the RBC Toronto Pride ERG and a member of ExeQutive.
“Early in my coming out I volunteered at the CLGA through a work initiative and I instantly wanted to do more to help the cause. Fast forward a few years and I saw the Board of Directors posting and knew that I could bring my 15 years of corporate experience to support the CLGA.”
Marcos A. Persaud (Director):
Marcos A. Persaud has over 10 years of legal experience and more recently shifted into corporate auditing. After obtaining a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Paralegal studies, he graduated with an LL.B (Hon.) from the UK. Marcos possesses experience in tax litigation, bankruptcy and corporate immigration. He held executive LGBTQ2+ committee positions for Deloitte, PwC and more recently George Weston Ltd., and the Loblaw group of companies. His work within the LGBTQ2+ community includes engaging key executives and various individuals through education, social awareness, and advisory work. In his downtime, you can find him actively at the gym, or various sports but also playing the classics like NES or PlayStation.
“It is important that as our community grows in achieving significant milestones, that we look back and preserve the steps and the work that was needed to get to where we are today and in building an inclusive future. This is the reason why I choose to volunteer at the archives.”
