Primarily a volunteer-run organization, with a focus on Canadian content, The ArQuives acquires, preserves and provides public access to information and archival materials in any medium. The organization offers a range of research, exhibition, educational and community programming. For more information please see our website: arquives.ca The ArQuives is hiring a contract archivist from July 2017 to March 2018. The archivist will be responsible for the physical and intellectual arrangement of various fonds/collections, adding fonds descriptions to the AtoM and InMagic databases and assisting with public service inquires.  The archivist will work with the Executive Director and The ArQuives volunteers to promote the archives profession and professional standards of work.

Qualification and Experience

  • Masters of Information or equivalent, with at least one year of archival experience
  • Experience with the arrangement and description of various media
  • Experience providing public reference service
  • Experience with RAD, Dublin Core, and digital preservation standards
  • Familiarity with Archeion (AtoM), Audacity, InMagic, OMEKA
  • Knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ2+ history, communities and their issues/interests
  • Ability to work independently, with a project team, and with volunteer committees
  • Strong time management, project management and multi-tasking capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills one-on-one, with groups and in written form
  • Some evening and weekend availability is required
  • Ability to lift boxes of 18 kg
