The ArQuives: Canada’s LGBTQ2+ Archives is one of the largest LGBTQ2+ archives in the world and the only archive in Canada with a national mandate. Founded in 1973 and based in Toronto, we are expanding our programming to ensure that LGBTQ2+ collections and cultural heritage from across Canada are preserved and protected.

We invite nominations and applications from individuals across Canada to join our active Board of Directors. We seek committed individuals with the time, energy, and initiative to help preserve LGBTQ2+ cultural heritage and steward the documentary records of LGBTQ2+ communities nationwide. Ideal candidates have a strong record of service in arts, culture, or heritage organizations and experience serving on non-profit boards. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in marketing and communications, legal and regulatory compliance, fundraising, and community engagement.

The Board of Directors advances strategic goals related to collections development, educational programming, and fundraising. It also supports standing committees, including Communications, Community Engagement, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Fundraising.

The Board meets virtually once per month, with additional monthly committee meetings. Board members serve a two-year term and should expect a monthly commitment of approximately 8–12 hours. Members may also attend events as their location allows.

Directors are elected at the Annual General Meeting, which will be held virtually on May 26, 2025.

The ArQuives welcomes and encourages applications from members of equity-deserving groups, including racialized persons, women, Indigenous peoples, trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals, Black people, people of colour, and persons with disabilities. We encourage you to consider joining our dynamic team.

To apply, please submit a short CV or résumé and a letter outlining your experience and how you envision contributing to The ArQuives and its governance.

Deadline for submissions: March 31, 2025, at 5:00 PM EST.
