Travelling from east, west, or north

Closest stop: Yonge-Bloor Station

  • Exit the station to the Yonge-Bloor intersection

ArQuives Accessibility

The ArQuives is located in a heritage house, and some parts of the building have access limitations. We want visitors to know what to expect before they arrive, and we will work with you to make your visit as accessible and comfortable as possible. Building Access

Arriving at The ArQuives

  • The entrance is at the front of the building and has an accessibility ramp.
  • Our doors do not open automatically.
  • Please ring the doorbell at the front entrance for access.
  • The doorbell is at an accessible height.

Stair Access

  • Front entrance stairs: 5 steps (accessibility ramp available)
  • Main floor to 2nd floor: 16 steps

Elevator Access

  • Elevator Access is available between the main and 2nd floor.
  • The lift is smaller than a standard elevator. Some mobility devices may not be able to turn around inside the lift, and some visitors may need to enter or exit backward. A staff member or volunteer can assist if requested.
  • Turning space into elevator: Approximately 44 x 44 in or 111.5 x 111.5 cm.
  • A volunteer or staff member is available to assist if requested.

Door Openings

  • The narrowest passageway a mobility device will have to fit through is 72 cm.
  • Balustrade to wall 30 in or 76 cm
  • Doorway after balustrade 30 in or 76 cm
  • Doorway to elevator 28.5 in or 72 cm
  • Doorway to Reading Room 28.5 in or 72cm
  • Doorway to bathroom 28.5 in or 72 cm

Washrooms

  • There are no push buttons for the doors.
  • The doors open inwards.

First Floor

Accessible, single-user gender neutral washroom with two grab bars.

Second Floor

Single-user gender neutral washroom. There is one step to access this washroom.

ASL Interpretation

ASL interpretation may be available with advance notice. Please contact us as early as possible so we can explore options.

Translation

If you would like a tour or visit support in a language other than English, please contact us in advance. Language support depends on staff and volunteer availability, but we will do our best to help.

Visual Tour Descriptions

If you are a visitor or accompanying someone who is blind or vision impaired, please let us know in advance so that our tour guide or Public Service volunteer can provide further visual descriptions of the space, artworks, exhibits, or documents we are viewing.

Scent-Free Environment

To help make the space accessible for people with scent sensitivities, The ArQuives is scent-free. Please avoid wearing scented products when visiting, including perfume, cologne, hairspray, strongly scented creams, or scented soaps.
