Located in Toronto, Ontario, The ArQuives is one of the largest LGBTQ2+ archives in the world. Primarily a volunteer-run organization focusing on Canadian content, The ArQuives acquires, preserves, and provides public access to information and collections in various formats. Our organization offers a range of research, exhibition, educational, and community programming. The ArQuives seeks a Digital Archivist (22-month contract) commencing April 2025. 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Digital Archivist is responsible for leading the organization’s strategic management of all digital archival collections, including digital surrogates resulting from digitization and born-digital collections. Responsibilities of the position include creating a Digitization Strategy, setting up and maintaining Preservica, creating documentation and work plans, and supervising volunteer Digitization Assistants. On-site work (90%) is required.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Create a digitization strategy 
  • Create workflows and a procedures guide 
  • Prepare and deliver internal training to staff and volunteers
  • Implement and maintain Preservica
  • Supervise digitization projects
  • Community Consultation
  • Arrangement and description of digital records
  • Managing local storage and developing a storage strategy

Qualification and Experience 

  • Masters of Information or equivalent; 
  • 2 years of experience working with digital collections; 
  • Experience in developing and implementing digitization strategies;
  • 1 year experience processing born-digital records; 
  • Knowledge and understanding of Preservica, Inmagic, Google Suite, Basecamp, and AtoM are an asset;
  • Knowledge and understanding of the LGBTQ2+ communities and history in Canada or experience working with marginalized communities is an asset;
  • The ability to take the initiative and prioritize with strong attention to detail.
