Located in Toronto, Ontario, The ArQuives is one of the largest independent LGBTQ2+ archives in the world. Primarily a volunteer-run organization focusing on Canadian content, The ArQuives acquires, preserves, and provides public access to information and collections in various formats. Our organization offers a range of research, exhibition, educational, and community programming. The ArQuives seeks a part-time Volunteer Coordinator (22.5h/week) starting in February 2023.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting, screening, training, and assigning volunteers to various committees. The successful candidate will work closely with staff and existing volunteers to build and maintain a robust volunteer base. On-site work will be required (90%), and the occasional evening and weekend are expected.
The ArQuives has a COVID-19 Vaccine and Safety Policy for all staff, volunteers, and researchers. Proof of vaccination is required for new employees. Principle Duties & Responsibilities
- Create a five-year recruitment and retention plan for The ArQuives
- Recruit, interview, select, train, supervise, and guide volunteers;
- Respond to inquiries and requests from potential volunteers and volunteer groups;
- Update volunteer program documentation and training material;
- Provide volunteers with ongoing coaching, motivation and support;
- Manage the volunteer database (Sumac) by tracking and updating information such as activities, committee involvement, and hours;
- Plan and execute volunteer recognition events and other initiatives such as appreciation events and volunteer surveys;
- Provide monthly reports and statistics, and conduct annual volunteer reviews as needed.
Qualification and Experience
- Volunteer Management certificate or at least one year’s experience in a similar position;
- The ability to work positively, supportively, and respectfully in an environment that celebrates individuals from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities, ages, and abilities;
- Knowledge and understanding of the LGBTQ2+ communities and history in Canada or experience working with marginalized communities;
- Strong communication skills and experience in public speaking;
- Experience with conflict resolution and working with the public is an asset;
- Knowledge and understanding of Google Suite, Sumac, and Basecamp are an asset;
- The ability to work independently, take the initiative, and prioritize with strong attention to detail.
