Description: The beloved Canadian classic returns to Toronto for the first time in 22 years for a one-night-only reading, benefitting the Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives. Simon has been imprisoned decades for the murder of his adolescent lover, a crime he didn’t commit, and the only person who knows the truth has kept a devout silence. Simon and eight of his inmates perform a play for a visiting Bishop, where beauty walks hand-in-hand with tragedy, and artifice will reveal the ultimate truth.

Hinds, lemonTree theatre creations Artistic Producer Cole Alvis, ProudFM Broadcaster Chris Mitchell, Love is a Poverty You Can Sell’s Ryan Anning, and Deviant Theatre’s Evan Vipond all under the direction of arts and culture journalist Michael Lyons. Lilies premiered in Toronto in 1991 at Theatre Passe Muraille and is also well known for the 1996 film adaptation directed by John Greyson.
The ArQuives was established to aid in the recovery and preservation of our histories. Its mandate is to acquire, preserve, organize, and give public access to information and materials in any medium, by and about LGBT people, primarily produced in or concerning Canada. To support this function, the Archives also maintains significant non-archival collections, which include a research library, international subject files, and an international collection of queer periodicals. It is our mandate to make this information available to the public for education and research. Over the years, we have helped hundreds of people – students, artists, journalists, lawyers, filmmakers – working on various projects.
