Trans Program Associate

Trans Program Associate

Trans Program Associate

The ArQuives (formerly the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives) is hiring a Trans Program Associate on a part time contract, beginning November 2019 until May 15, 2020. The position will focus on the co-creation and implementation of part of the Myseum of Toronto project ActiVisions: Trans Histories and Activism, 1970s-2010s. ActiVisions is an exhibition, public program, and Toronto trans place-specific tour concerning the intersectional history of GTA trans people from the 1970s-2010s.

The successful applicant will work with the Guest Curator to research the trans collections held at The ArQuives, creating two public outcomes: a public roundtable featuring activists whose materials are held in the archives; and a trans-focused Toronto tour, led by the Trans Program Associate in 2020-2021, and thereafter by The ArQuives volunteers. The Associate will work with the Guest Curator at The ArQuives.

The ArQuives acknowledges and is committed to addressing historical inequities within our organization. We encourage applications from marginalized communities including those who identify as Indigenous, Black, people of colour, women, trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, and persons with disabilities.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of trans history, LGBTQ2+ communities, and their issues/interests
  • Excellent written & oral communication skills
  • Research experience
  • The ability to work effectively, independently, and as part of a team
  • A strong commitment to the mission of The ArQuives
  • A commitment to decolonization and anti-oppression

Organization website: www.arquives.ca

Application deadline: November 15, 2019

How to apply: Email a cover letter and CV to the attention of Raegan Swanson, Executive Director, jobposting@arquives.ca

Salary: $32/hr for 80 hours ($2560) of research and writing of a tour script, as well as collaborating with the Guest Curator, plus actually giving 6 tours at $150 ($900).

The ArQuives is located on the lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, Haudenosaunee, the Anishnaabe and the Huron-Wendat. Today, Toronto is still the home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.

The ArQuives strives to gather the stories of the unheard and silenced voices of the 2SLGBTQ+ first peoples of this land. We acknowledge that some stories have already been lost, and we aim to ensure that those that remain and those that are to come are preserved for the future.
