The Imperial Court of Toronto (TICOT)
by Gordon Richardson
The Imperial Court of Toronto (TICOT) was founded by Carlos Misseri in 1987 under the founding name the Trillium Monarchist Society (TMS). The original mandate of the organization was to promote ‘Friendship, Unity and Nonsense’ (F.U.N.) through holding entertaining fundraising events. Each year after, there has been an election in Toronto to fill the positions of Emperor and Empress.
The Emperor I Sergio Apolloni Memorial Scholarship was founded in 1991 by Emperor IV Andrew Kennedy under the protectorate of the Trillium Knights of Ontario. The scholarship program was transferred to the U of T with a donation in 2000 by Emperor X, Gary Farr. The Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies – University College (University of Toronto) now manages this endowment fund which is annually awarded to a LGBT student in the SDS Program.
The crown housed in The ArQuives collection was worn by Emperor I Sergio Apollini during his reign in 1987. The scepter, also part of the collection, was carried by Empress XXIV Dusty Balfour during her reign in 2010.
