Zine workshop, February 17th

Join us for a free zine workshop. Participants will learn about the history of zines and their role in DIY and queer culture, featuring examples from The ArQuives collections!

Participants will also learn how to create and reproduce their very own zines with collage and craft materials provided – we hope to see you there!

Emma Awe is a PhD candidate in Public History at Carleton University, located on the unceded traditional territories of the Algonquin. Using artistic methods, their dissertation asks how queer punk zines configure into the historic emergence of queer radical politics across Canada from 1980-2000. In educational, not-for-profit, and community settings, Emma has worked with youth to explore queer and trans pasts through arts-based experiential learning. They draw inspiration from historic queer and radical media to dream new worlds in their own creative practices. (website)

Clara Lynas: is a Scarborough based zine artist, she studied printmaking at OCAD University and uses it as a medium to tell stories in book form. She believes the body of the book is an integral part of the story it tells and strives to make a living, breathing zines with a great physical presence. She would like to live more out of love than out of spite.

Some materials will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring personal or specific materials such as magazine clippings, art supplies, and stickers. For questions, please email Volunteer@arquives.ca
