As we highlighted in the last issue of Communique the strength of our archives, collection, programming and outreach comes from our broad base of dedicated volunteers. We are always welcoming new people to join us to share their skills, expertise and to make a difference in our communities. Over the years, we have drawn in people from all walks of life to help us with our mission. Below is a spotlight on three new people who have joined The Archives  earlier this Fall. Think you can help us preserve and collect the history of the LGBTQ community? Simply drop by our website and fill out a volunteer form.
Eileen Brosnan (Collections):
Eileen is a librarian, and a history nerd. She has always been interested in archival collections, and she admires the queer focus of The ArQuives. She, her wife, and son recently relocated to Toronto from the west coast and they’re in love with the city, its culture and history. “I volunteer at The ArQuives because I think it is exciting and so important to discover, reveal, and preserve queer history.”
Leela Scott (Collections):
Leela is an office drone by day, regular drone by night. She found out about the archives while at university when a queer theory professor brought in some buttons from the collection. The buttons made a big impression and soon after moving to Toronto Leela reached out to The ArQuives to see if she could become a volunteer. She is currently being trained in collections and is considering Masters programs to further pursue archival work. “I volunteer at The ArQuives because I think it is so important to preserve our histories in the face of forces that wish to edit or outright erase them.”
