The ArQuives is one of the largest independent LGBTQ2+ archives in the world and the only archive in Canada with a mandate to collect at a national level. Located in Toronto, The ArQuives was founded out of The Body Politic newspaper collection in 1973 and has a mandate to safeguard the LGBTQ2+ history of Canada.

The ArQuives invites nominations and applications from individuals across Canada to join our active board of directors. We seek individuals with the time, energy, and initiative to work on LGBTQ2+ cultural heritage and documentary stewardship for the LGBTQ2+ community nationwide. This call solicits individuals with a record of dynamic service to arts/culture/heritage agencies and expertise in marketing and communication, legal, regulatory and organizational compliance, and community engagement to join the board of directors.

The ArQuives values diversity and is committed to addressing historical inequities within our organization. We strongly encourage applications from marginalized communities, including those who identify as Indigenous, women, trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, Black, people of colour, and persons with disabilities. We also encourage applicants from those aged 18 – 29 and 60+.

Board members work to further strategic goals concerning diversity, collections, programming ventures, and fundraising for the upcoming Capital campaign. The board supports various standing committees, including the Communications Committee, the Community Engagement Committee, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and the Fundraising Committee, among others.

Board members attend several virtual board and committee meetings, participate in periodic community and sponsored events, and dedicate additional time to work on chosen focus areas. Board members serve a two-year term and commit 8 – 12 hours monthly. The ArQuives usually elect new directors at May’s Annual General Meeting; however, we currently have two openings, which the board aims to fill before May.
