On May 7, 2026, The ArQuives hosted a free virtual webinar titled Introduction to Digital Archives and Digital Preservation, presented by The ArQuives’ Digital Archivist, Natasha Fisher.
This webinar was created as a resource for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of digital archives and digital preservation. We are pleased to share the webinar recording and presentation slides so that this information can remain freely accessible to anyone who would like to learn from it.
The response to this first digital archiving webinar exceeded our expectations, with more than 315 registrants and 120 live attendees joining from fifteen different countries! 100% of respondents to our post-event survey said that attending the webinar improved their understanding of digital preservation, and when asked what they found to be the most valuable takeaway, these topics were most often highlighted:
- The NDSA Levels of Digital Preservation
- Tools, software, and resources for starting DIY digital preservation work
- Foundational concepts of digital archiving and preservation
We are so grateful and energized by this enthusiasm and engagement, and particularly by all the thoughtful questions from attendees during the Q&A session. It is encouraging to see that digital preservation is becoming a more wide-spread practice for community archives, and will be further accelerated by everyone reading this and working towards protecting their own digital collections!
