Job Posting: Development Officer

Located in Toronto, Ontario, The ArQuives is one of the largest 2SLGBTQIA+ archives in the world. Primarily a volunteer-run organization focusing on Canadian content, The ArQuives acquires, preserves, and provides public access to information and collections in various formats. Additionally, our organization offers a range of research, exhibition, educational, and community programming. The ArQuives seeks a Development Officer (12-month contract with the possibility of extension) to commence in May 2026.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Officer will drive fundraising initiatives and activities for The ArQuives, including implementing the annual giving campaign, cultivating and maintaining relationships with new and existing donors and supporters, and collaborating on future plans for a Capital Campaign aligned with our Strategic Plan. The Development Officer will work with the Board’s Fundraising Committee and assist with grant writing and foundation research. Hybrid opportunity with office attendance (approximately) 2-4 times a month.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Develop and foster relationships with individuals, communities, and corporate members.
  • Develop and implement annual giving campaigns.
  • Oversee activities and work of the Fundraising Committee and help mobilize staff, board, and volunteers
  • Produce individual donor plans, develop and implement long-term investment and stewardship strategies.
  • Develop and execute donor recognition events in collaboration with the Fundraising Committee, staff, board, and volunteers.
  • Manage the major gifts and legacy giving for The ArQuives.
  • Collaborate with the Capital Campaign Committee to establish communication and workflow processes.

Qualification and Experience 

  • 3-5 years of fundraising experience
  • Strong communication experience and relationship-building skills
  • Familiarity with donor databases or CRM systems (Keela)
  • Experience coordinating events, meetings, or stewardship activities is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and their history in Canada, or experience working with marginalized communities, are assets.
  • The ability to take the initiative and prioritize with strong attention to detail.
