In May 2026, we will be co-hosting From Marginalization to Visibility: 2SLGBTQ+ Archives & Public Memory: Exploring how 2SLGBTQ+ archives contribute to a broader understanding of Canadian history. Building on the 2024 conference at MacEwan in Edmonton, the conference will explore how 2SLGBTQ+ archives contribute to a broader understanding of Canadian history. It will also act as a community forum, working to bridge the gaps between academia, activism, and community during a time of increased threat.

A volunteer Steering Committee for the conference has already been formed and has met over the last year. With the conference quickly approaching, we are looking for volunteers to serve on the following subcommittees:

  • Programming and Outreach
  • Logistics and Local Arrangements
  • Audio/Visual and Translation
  • Fundraising

The conference will have a hybrid format between May 15-17, 2026, with in-person sessions taking place on the Dalhousie University campus in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

If you are interested in volunteering with any of these aspects of the conference, please complete this form.

Additional information about each subcommittee is provided in the form, but please reach out to qhistories2026@gmail.com if you have any questions. We especially welcome and encourage volunteers by and from communities who identify as Indigenous, Trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming, Black, people of colour, veterans, and persons with disabilities. 2SLGBTQ+ community members outside of academia or the heritage sector are encouraged to apply.

As a volunteer, you’ll:

  • Get the opportunity to connect with people working in and between academic, activist, and community settings to preserve 2SLGBTQ+ histories
  • Gain valuable experience in aspects of conference planning such as logistics, fundraising, outreach/promotion on social media and listservs
  • Get the opportunity to attend some sessions in exchange for hours volunteered
  • Get Conference swag!

Note: Volunteers need to arrange their own transportation and meals, as well as accommodation (if required).

Apply by March 27, 2026.
