Located in Toronto, Ontario, The ArQuives is one of the largest 2SLGBTQIA+ archives in the world. Primarily a volunteer-run organization focusing on Canadian content, The ArQuives acquires, preserves, and provides public access to information and collections in various formats. Our organization offers a range of research, exhibition, educational, and community programming. The ArQuives seeks a Project Archivist (six-month contract) commencing June 2026.

Reporting to the ED, the Project Archivist will be responsible for the arrangement and description of a major new digital accession, the Purge Historical Document Collection. The Project Archivist will also be responsible for ingesting digital assets to Preservica, creating a research guide for the collection, and assisting staff with other archival projects as needed. On-site work (65%) is required.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Arrangement and description of digital archival materials
  • Uploading materials to the digital preservation system, Preservica
  • Creation of a collection research guide
  • Other processing duties as required

Qualification and Experience

  • Masters of Information or equivalent;
  • 2 years of experience working with archival collections;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Dublin Core, Preservica, Inmagic, Google Suite, Basecamp, and AtoM are an asset;
  • Knowledge and understanding of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and history in Canada or experience working with marginalized communities is an asset;
  • The ability to take the initiative and prioritize with strong attention to detail.
