Marc Leduc boxing beltBy Gordon Richardson

Mark Leduc was a Canadian light welterweight boxer who won a silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. He turned pro in 1992, had limited success and retired in 1993. In 1994 he came out as gay in the TV documentary For the Love of the Game, one of the few boxers ever to do so.
In 1999 he was grand marshall of Toronto’s Pride Parade and volunteered with the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation. He died at age forty-seven on July 22, 2009 in Toronto. He had collapsed in the sauna of a local hotel, and doctors suggested that his death may have been from heat stroke.
